Jennifer Reid

We are thrilled to have talented Jennifer Reid come on board as our Featured Artist for April. From the outskirts of Sydney, Jennifer's designs are inspired by nature and we can't wait to see what you do with her gorgeous collection!

A little bit about Jennifer

Jennifer lives in a beautiful semi-rural town on the outskirts of Sydney with her amazing husband and their two beautiful kids. Before starting her design business over 12 years ago, Jennifer was a primary school teacher and before that worked in a variety of other areas – retail, finance and even owned her own beauty salon. But now she's livin’ the dream … freelance designing and teaching graphic design and illustration at Design Centre Enmore, TAFE NSW and Torrens University.

Natural, elegant and whimsical are a few words Jennifer uses to describe her design work, created with the aim of sparking joy in the world.  Jennifer has always loved making art, ever since she was a child, but has been committed to practising art as therapy since the first of two cancer diagnoses she faced in 2009.  Since then, she has beaten cancer twice, and continues to use creativity as her favourite self-care ritual and is rather proud of the portfolio she is building.  Jennifer enjoys experimenting with a mix of traditional and digital design methods, to find a balance between refined design and hand-drawn elements that are full of charm and playful colour.

Where does Jennifer's inspiration come from?

Jennifer is obsessed with drawing from nature, mainly Australian botanicals and birds.  She loves travel adventures and gathering inspiration from other creatives along the way, especially while wandering through art galleries and museums.  Emerging artists, and her students in particular, are also a huge inspiration to Jennifer.

What motivates you to pursue your creative passion?

Immersing herself in art and design sparks joy for Jennifer and is truly her happy place.  She also loves the buzz of sparking joy in others when her work is shared. So these positive feelings, especially in our world that is often tumultuous, are what motivates Jennifer to pursue her creative passion.

What are the top three things, or 'rules' you choose to live by?

  1. Be kind, always.
  2. Love conquers all.
  3. Never stop dreaming.

What is the one thing you cannot wait to have in your own fabric?

Can I have 2 things? Lots of dresses and lots of cushions!
