How long will my order take?
Fabric orders are submitted to our manufacturers twice each month - on the 1st and the 15th. For example, if you place an order on 5 February, it will be included in the 15 February print run.
Delivery is typically 4–6 weeks from the processing date, meaning a 15 February order would usually arrive mid to late March.
Most Material Difference fabrics are sold in 0.5 metre increments. Orders over 0.5 metres are cut as one continuous length wherever possible, though occasionally larger quantities may be supplied in two pieces.
Are different scales and sizes available?
Multiple scaling options are available on most designs. The product descriptions indicate how to measure each scale by referring to an element in the design. The measurements in these product descriptions are estimates and are to be used as a guide only. If you need help choosing your scale, we recommend joining our Facebook group (a super helpful group!) or contacting us via email.
What is Ready to Ship fabric?
Ready to Ship products are exactly that - in stock and ready to be dispatched immediately. There is no option to change the fabric base or scale; each item is supplied exactly as described in the product listing.
Please do not combine pre-order and Ready to Ship items in the same order. If purchased together, your entire order will be held and dispatched once the pre-order items arrive.
Unless a product is clearly marked as Ready to Ship, it is classified as a pre-order item.
Do you offer Custom Printing?

Do you offer Gift Vouchers?
Yes! Our gift vouchers are available in a variety of denominations and do not expire. Multiple vouchers can in one transaction and can be combined with other coupons, such as discounts and promotions. To use a voucher simply add its unique coupon code to the coupon field in the shopping cart, hit apply and the amount of your voucher will be deducted from your total. Can I resell MD fabric?
You can destash fabric you have brought from us through our Facebook Group and other destash sites. We do ask that you do not resell your fabric to third party fabric traders without discussing this with us first.
Where do the designs come from?
All designs featured on this website are exclusively licensed to Material Difference by the artists who created them. The artists retain full copyright of their work, and designs may not be reproduced or used to create products without the artist’s permission.
When you purchase fabric from Material Difference, you can be confident you are buying a properly licensed product. Fabric purchased through us may be used for commercial purposes, provided the original artist is acknowledged.
If you would like to use images from our website to promote your pre-orders or finished makes, please use watermarked images where possible - we are happy to supply these upon request.

Do you offer Samples?
We get it - it's hard to order fabrics when you can't touch and feel them. So before you buy, why not try some samples so you can touch and feel all you like?! This also shows how the colours and details print on different fabric bases as this can vary between the texture of the fabric as well as the weave and overall weight (gsm).

Can I return my fabric?
Please ensure you double (and then triple!) check your orders before purchasing. As all of our fabrics are printed to order, we unfortunately cannot process refunds or accept returns for any ordering errors or change of mind.
The printing of custom designed fabric is quite a complex process so you may come across a fault occasionally. Material Difference fabrics are checked multiple times throughout the process, but the odd fault may get missed. Please check your orders thoroughly when they arrive. You have 8 weeks from the date of delivery to you to report any fault in your fabric. If you do receive fabric that has a fault, please contact us at hello@materialdifference.com.au and we will be happy to discuss your options.

We’re pleased to offer 10% off all orders over $200, perfect for makers purchasing in larger quantities. This discount is automatically applied at checkout.
How much does shipping cost?
We offer $15 flat rate shipping within Australia and $30 flat rate shipping to New Zealand.
Please ensure your shipping address and email details are entered correctly at checkout. Orders are processed using the information provided, and we are unable to amend details once submitted unless an error is identified.
If a parcel needs to be re-sent due to incorrect shipping information, any additional shipping costs will be the responsibility of the customer.
